“I got more than one membership to more than one club; and I owe my life to the people that I love.” Ani Difranco
So, here is the best of the other stuff I came across in my travels:
Best mexican food: mexican food is a huge part of post race joy. Austin and San Fran split this one.
Best Coffee: hands down Spain. Even the gas stations have 5000 dollar expresso machines and milk steamers. The result is a cafe con leche that brings pure joy. Muddy Waters in San Fran gets a nod for being good too.
Best Local Bike Shop: while Block Island Sport is the best, the best on the road was the bike-shop-coffee-joint-mexican place in Lousiville. Seriously. How can you top stairing at bikes while having coffee and mexican food?
Best Pizza: pre race pizza is so key, the best goes to whatever it was where we got in louisville. Plus that place had the video game 720 which was better known as “skate or die” , which was the raddest.
Best Airline: Jet Blue. Hip terminal with free wifi, tv, and unlimitted snacks and the cheapest bike fees. Plus one of the dudes in the cockpit is CREW.
Best Town That I Thought Would Suck But Didn’t: I knew austin, lousiville, granda and san fran would be cool, but I didn’t know orlando wouldn’t suck. With a rental mustange I spent one day at the beach which was lovely, and also found Ethos, a great punk-vegan joint. Post race I got ice cream and watched the kids kill it at the Vans Skate Park.
Best New Climb: Road up and over Zafferrria this year. Been eying it for years after watching Evan and Contador do it. So stoked I did this sick 3000 foot, 20+k climb twice at SLB this year. The L.A.M.B. Ride was also epic but I had done it once a few years ago.
Best Other Food while on The Road: Jullians in providence, ri. Amazing Vegan food, and everyone there has tattoo sleeves. God bless there lil’ hearts. Made me, my sis and the Annachrist feel right at home before RI 70.3
Best Amish: I-70 rest stop in the way to The Dam Tri. Place is a total Amish Paridise.
[pic: I can't talk about it, but let me just say, everyone had on red robes and I had to use a code name. and that was the least crazy of the 3 night of last weekend; yeah thats some serious off season fun]
that Amish were way cool. scariest thing about that stop was the bathroom line at the Subway we ate at. The guy in front of me had bandages on both wrists and a hospital bracelet. I thought he was going in there for another attemp and never coming out of that bathroom alive. Thankfully he walked out ’cause i had to fricken pee BAD
Pre race pizza?
I hope we get to do Zaffaria again this year. LAMB was epic. Don’t despair. More importantly, I can now I see that your Jedi training is complete. Certainly you must know that the real power is in the Dark Side.
Pizza in Louisville…Spinelli’s! Bike/Coffee/Mexican joint in Louisville…Cyclers Cafe!
Yeah… what TallGirl said! go Louisville!
Peej… you’ve never seen someone annihilate a pizza until your witnessed JHirsch pre-IM.
Amen, re: Julians
BikeZen – I can only imagine. I’ve seen him eat post 1/2 IM food and that was a bit scary and not nearly as good as this pizza sounds.
BikeZen & Peej – I’ve also been privy to seeing the pre race pizza consumption and I did fear for my life. For those that haven’t seen it…make sure you order a large pie for YOURSELF. ‘Cause when JH is done with his, he’s coming after yours. (and he’s not afraid to eat your leftover pizza while you’re passed out on the couch)
