Today was special. After hitting a flat spot the last few years I broke through this year with 3 top 15 finishs at wtc 70.3 races and now a top 10. In the coming hours I will try to unpack all the feels of the day but right now I am too smashed.

Sunday, August 31st, 2008Can’t sleep. I have been here a dozen times before with fear and excitment mix in my blender-head, as I get ready to bake my pain and glory cake. Yummy cake. I love cake. “I would punch someone in the face for some cake”* so you can imagine what I would do for a very special pain and glory cake.

Saturday, August 30th, 2008At the cross country meet I had a thought. The race was hosted by a Catholic school. I grew up cathoic and it occured to me that catholic schools could really improve their names. I know I would think twice is I was competing against the danbury catholic school “angles of death.” Or how about the “red horsemen of war.” Or even the “blood sea.” The bike is checked, nothing left to do but show up and race.
